Last week we got to do something really cool. We have been shooting event photography for the Summer of Rum Festival for years now. But this year we wanted to take it up a notch and we suggested that we work together to shoot an ad campaign for the festival. After brainstorming some ideas, we pitched the “Downtown Beach.”
The idea was to create a total “fish out of water” environment, a beach in the middle of the city! Monica and Ferdian from Big City Events (the folks that run Summer of Rum) raided their warehouse and brought out a bunch of props for the shoot. They also brought along a hefty supply of Cruzan Rum, the festival’s main sponsor.
Despite the rainy day, we set out to execute the craziest production we’ve ever done. That rain, by the way, would later become a tropical storm the very next day. Our fabulous models joined us on set and we were off to the races! We shot with our Nikon D750 and we rented some Profoto D1’s from Contender Productions to light the scene. After stopping for rain a couple times we were able to achieve a really great shot that we are proud of.
Check out a cool behind the scenes timelapse of the whole shoot below!
We knew that us running from the rain would be the best part, haha. As the storm clouds you’re at the festival over Labor Day weekend- make sure you say hi to us so we can grab a shot of you with your drink!
