I’m doing a progress check this week on some long term goals I set for myself last year. I think accountability is so important when actually accomplishing goals and putting things in writing in a public place helps me so much.
Business Goals
1. Attend a creative workshop or conference. Checked this one off and I definitely want to do another one this year- but we are planning our 4th WPPI trip for 2017 as well!
2. Read 10 new business books, and 10 new personal books this year. Not totally sure if I got through 20 new books but I did put a dent in my list-
3. Get published in 3 new blogs or magazines. This one only just got accomplished but I have been on top of my submissions game so far for 2016. We’ve already been published 15 times and have 10 upcoming submissions that have been accepted. Woohoo!
4. Start a series on the blog that Evan can participate in. Set up the category but haven;t quite got our schedule down yet for posting. This will happen this year though.
5. Set up a new client management system. I love our new CMS- we now use 17hats for all our invoicing, contract signing and workflow check lists, plus I love sending questionnaires to our couples through here- it keeps everything so organized for me!
6. Submit to print competition. Ahhhhh this. This has continuously been on my list for 5 years straight. I think planning ahead is a big part of why this doesn’t happen. I really need to take a step toward this and submit in the fall so we can watch our prints be judged at WPPI. Anyone want to help remind me?
Personal Goals
1. Set structured time for hobbies. I did pretty good at this and took a few classes with friends, including hand lettering. I want to keep this going and make sure this doesn’t get left behind because it’s been checked off.
2. Weekly schedule for yoga & meditating. Fail. Failed so very hard at this. But I really have to stop viewing it as failure and instead see an opportunity for personal growth. I am going to commit to meditating at my desk when I don’t feel like I have time to go outside to meditate. It will help so much with my mood and it’s really so necessary for me to do.
3. Go to a concert. I had to step way outside of my comfort zone because I got tickets to see the Neon Trees and we couldn’t get a babysitter so Evan couldn’t go with me. He was secretly happy about this I suspect because he hates concerts, so I sucked it up and went by myself. And it was awesome. I felt totally old in a crowd where no one else had a wristband indicating they could buy alcohol but it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. I’m so glad I went and I might just go by myself again sometime.
4. Passports. Finally got these updated. Don’t love my new photo- note to self: Next time just go to Walgreens instead of insisting on setting up a home studio and taking our own photos so they’ll be “better”. The passport office will screw them up anyway.
5. Invest more time into my personal style. Actually did this! I subscribed to Stick Fix to get a few staple pieces I was missing and got a few great go-to items I love when I need to look slightly better than jeans and a t-shirt on the fly.
