I know that I preach a lot about how you should print photos and not let your images live on your hard drives. But do you really know why? It’s not just about having tangible items and displaying your investment proudly in your home. It’s a lot about safety of images which if you’ve ever worked with us you know that we take that very seriously. Digital media is unreliable. It fails. There is an unknown expiration date on every hard drive, CD, DVD, flash drive and computer. You never know when they will fail, all we know is they have an unpredictable shelf life and that is scary news when it comes to your wedding or family photos. This is why we always have images backed up in at least 3 places including the Cloud. Now the infamous cloud may be an exception to the rule BUT I do not trust something that has not been around for very long to be the only area I keep my precious memories. It’s still flawed, in that online companies get purchased and go out of business all. the. time. So you really should’t rely on that being your one method of saving your photos. Here are some eye-opening statistics provided by Artifact uprising.
That’s right, printing your photos on archival paper (a.k.a. not at a local big box photo counter) will make them last for generations. Now that is a statistic we can get board with! If you have a session with us and ever need printing recommendations I am happy to send you my list of printers! You don’t have to print through your photographer to have quality prints but do your research ahead of time. Because most online photo companies, especially those you find deals for, are printing on cheap paper that will not last for years to come.
