People cry at weddings, that’s nothing new. If your photographer sheds a tear or two, however- that may be unexpected. The fact is that we get so personally invested in our couples’ big day that we can’t help but feel like more than just photographers as we do what we do. In fact, it’s hard for Caroline to hold back just a couple of tears when that big moment happens at the alter, or maybe even when the bride first wears her wedding gown. For me, it’s a different story.
I’m a man. And men don’t cry, especially not at weddings. But there’s always an exception to the rule. I hereby admit that I have on more than one occasion gotten misty eyed during the traditional father-daughter dance. You would think that a tradition that is repeated at nearly every wedding would not impact me so, but each and every bride has a unique relationship with her father and the moment is always very special. I can’t say for sure why it means so much to me, perhaps it is because I hope to one day have a daughter that I can share that moment with. But it is special, and every time I put myself in the father’s shoes; imagining what it would be like to symbolically give my little girl away.
I wanted to share with you just a few of my favorite moments captured during father-daughter dances.
And how about a little sneak peak at our recent Selby Gardens wedding? A big thank you to Megan and her dad for inspiring me to write this post.
Hi Evan I loved this! So sweet and I’m sure that you are going to be an amazing dad one day. Always remember to make time to stay in touch even after they grow up. Thank you for writing the post and I am very honored that my dad and I inspired you! :)
