We got Jillian’s wedding film rolls back this week! This is the first 35mm film we’ve shot at a wedding. When Jillian & Kyle first told us their vision for their Old Hollywood inspired details, and that they wanted their portraits to look like they were out of an editorial, we knew we had to capture their Vinoy Wedding on film! Now the story of this camera; Evan and I both learned photography on 35mm and now after shooting weddings for 5 years we’ve been longing for a new 35mm film camera. We are always on the hunt in vintage shops and estate sales, we happened upon a church sale last month and we saw a nice little camera that looked to be in pretty good shape for $10. And it was a newer Nikon model so it fit all our lenses. SOLD. Then there was seeing if it worked. Well I have this box of film stuff from high school- which included a lot of expired film. I thought “why not?” and loaded a roll, shot it and dropped it at our lab for processing. It worked! Not only did the camera work but the film that was over 12 years old worked. Now back to Jillian & Kyle’s wedding day. We shot a roll of B&W expired film for some getting ready shots and portraits- I wanted the super grainy look on these. Then we shot a roll of new color film during the ceremony and portraits and details and then a third roll of new B&W film for remaining details and the first dance. I am in love with the black and whites, not a huge fan of this particular color roll, we’ll need to experiment with some different types of film to see what we love. These are straight out of camera, no editing whatsoever. Enjoy! To see their full wedding and vendor list, check out the full blog post here.
