It’s not very often that I write a blog post, Caroline is by far the better person for that job, but occasionally I feel the need to tell the story from my perspective. Today I’m sharing an emotional Veteran’s Day marine homecoming that I shot just this morning. Julie & Brian were married this past April and got to spend one month together as a married couple before Brian shipped out to Afghanistan for six months.
Brian was kind enough to include us on his email list which he uses to update his friends and family about his experiences and well being. As one of my best friends is a Major in the Marines, I thought I understood what Brian’s time would be like. I quickly learned that my friend’s job and Brian’s differ greatly as Brian was in an active war zone. Hearing stories about live fire in their camp at night and other very real, life threatening, situations offered a completely different perspective for me personally and helped me to appreciate what a sacrifice the members of the armed services make for us.
While Julie & I waited for Brian’s plane to arrive, Julie anxiously stared at the arrival screen and tried to hold back tears. Despite Brian’s plane actually arriving early, the wait seemed to last forever. Brian finally arrived and got to see his bride for the first time in six months.
Thank you, Julie & Brian for asking me to be a part of this incredible moment. And thank you to the men and women of the armed services who are not home yet.
Happy Veterans Day.

What a beautiful blessing for both of them. Glad Brian made it back home safe and secure to his beautiful bride. Such a wonderful day for Brian to come home. Stay blessed and much love.
